Charles Rangel, a Democrat representing New York's 13th district, has announced he's seeking a 23rd term in office.
The 83-year-old represented Harlem for more than four decades. He now represents Upper Manhattan and The Bronx, after redistricting.
He has a larger Latino population now but Rangel says he doesn't feel he needs to change to better serve his constituents.
“Anything that I have fought, been arrested for, like immigration, like jobs, those things are not restricted to Latinos,” Rangel said.
In 2010 Rangel stepped down as Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means after ethics complaints — including failure to pay taxes on rental income.
There had been speculation that the third-longest serving member of Congress would retire at the end of his term, but Rangel says it’s not the right time to leave.
“There’s never been a president that’s been more in sync with the reason that I went into politics,” he said.
And the Korean War veteran says he’s never felt better.
“Some people say I've never looked better.”
